5 Cars That Were Banned For Being Too Dangerous

TVR Cerbera Speed 12 — The Supercar Too Wild To Sell

The TVR Cerbera Speed 12 was designed to be the ultimate British hypercar. Its 7.7-litre V12 produced over 960 horsepower in a car that weighed almost nothing. It was built to take on the McLaren F1. There was just one problem: it was undrivable. Peter Wheeler, the boss of TVR, took one of the prototypes home one night and discovered firsthand that the car was too savage for public roads. He immediately cancelled all customer orders and dismantled every prototype except one. The Speed 12 was never banned by a government—it was banned by the man who built it. It’s now considered one of the most dangerous cars ever made, and the only remaining road-legal example sold at auction for over €700,000.
