7 Things That Were Normal 50 Years Ago And Are Banned Now

Corporal Punishment In Schools

In the 1970s, teachers could hit students with wooden paddles, rulers, or their bare hands. It was called “discipline.” Parents signed permission slips. Schools kept paddles in the principal’s office. Then researchers started documenting the psychological damage, and by the 1980s, most Western countries banned it. The UK banned corporal punishment in state schools in 1987. Today, if a teacher so much as touches a student, they’re fired and possibly arrested.
