7 Things That Were Normal 50 Years Ago And Are Banned Now
The 1970s were a different world. A world where you could smoke on a plane, drive without a seatbelt, and send your kid to school with a lead-painted toy. Nobody thought twice about it. It was just how things were. Then science caught up, politicians got involved, and one by one, these everyday habits became illegal. Here are seven things that were completely normal 50 years ago and are banned today.
Smoking On Airplanes

In the 1970s, you could light up a cigarette at 35,000 feet. Planes had ashtrays built into the armrests, and the back rows were designated for smokers. Flight attendants handed out cigarettes like they were peanuts. Then in the 1980s and 1990s, airlines started banning smoking on domestic flights, and by 2000, it was banned on virtually every commercial flight worldwide. Today, if you even joke about smoking on a plane, you’ll be escorted off by federal marshals.
