6 Criminals Who Were Betrayed By Their Own Pets

Bud the African Grey Parrot — The Bird Who Repeated The Murder

When police arrived at the Michigan home of Martin and Glenna Duram, Martin was dead with five gunshot wounds, and Glenna was barely alive with a gunshot wound to the head. She claimed she couldn’t remember what happened. Investigators were stumped. Then the couple’s African Grey parrot, Bud, started repeating a phrase in Martin’s voice: “Don’t shoot… don’t f***ing shoot.” Martin’s ex-wife, who adopted the bird, said Bud delivered the words “clearly, furiously and persistently.” Authorities concluded a parrot couldn’t be a credible witness in court. But the bird’s repeated cries were enough to keep investigators digging—and they found suicide notes, gambling debts, and enough evidence to convict Glenna of first-degree murder. She was sentenced to life in prison.
